From 1989 to 1994 he worked in the Laboratory of Computer and Information Science at Helsinki University of Technology doing research on speech recognition and neural network projects. Since 1994 he has continued the research on the applications of Self-Organizing Maps and Learning Vector Quantization for Hidden Markov Models at the Neural Networks Research Centre of Helsinki University of Technology. In 1998 he started as post-doc in IDIAP to do research in large vocabulary continuous speech recognition. The current project indexing broadcast news for the ESPRIT Long Term Research Project project THISL (Thematic Indexing of Spoken Language).
His research interests include artificial neural networks, Hidden Markov Models and speech recognition.
