MAP estimation can be made invariant under reparametrisations by fixing the parametrisation. A natural way to do this is to use a parametrisation which makes the Fisher information matrix of the model constant. Then it is probable that the peaks in the posterior have approximately similar widths and are more or less symmetrical.
