About

Francesco Corona is senior researcher at the Environmental and Industrial Machine Learning group of the Adaptive Informatics Research Centre.

He received the Laurea degree in chemical engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials at the University of Cagliari (Sardinia). After working as process control engineer for the Saras Group, he received the Ph.D. (Eng.) degree in industrial engineering from the Doctoral School in Industrial Engineering at the University of Cagliari. He officially joined the Aalto University/Helsinki University of Technology in January 2007, where he was appointed to the Docentship in "Industrial Applications of Machine Learning" at the Department of Information and Computer Science in 2009.

His interest concentrates on Machine Learning technologies with application to process modeling, control and optimization. Specific domains are chemometrics and process analytical technologies for process and power industry, dynamic systems and time series analysis.

In Francesco's activities there are constantly open student projects. Those projects might be accomplished in the framework of a Master Thesis, as well as in the framework of a Special Assignment. If you are interested, please, get in contact.

He is member of Suomen Automaatioseura ry, the Finnish Society of Automation and Suomen Biostatistiikan Seura ry, the Finnish Society of Biostatistics.

• Linear methods for quantitative analysis in light spectroscopy, a series of lectures designed with Elia Liitiäinen to the course High-throughput bioinformatics (T-61.5050, spring term 2007-2008, 3-5 credits ECTS). The course was organized by Janne Nikkilä, Petri Auvinen and Leo Lahti.
• Workshop on functional data analysis, a series of lectures by Prof. Jim Ramsay (T-61.6900 spring term 2008-2009, 3 credits ECTS). The course was organized jointly with Timo Hurme and Elia Liitiäinen.
